Wednesday morning notes

– So, on a lark, I rented Driver: San Francisco via Gamefly and I have to say that I’m stunned at how good this game is.   I’m sure you’ve heard a bit about the game, but I couldn’t have imagined how much fun it is to be able to leap from car to car causing so much havoc throughout the city.

This is the first time that I can recall being this pleasantly surprised about a game in a very long time.   This is also one of the first games in forever that I thought about buying from Gamefly without even thinking about the cost.  It’s just that much fun.  If you have a rental spot open for Gamefly, throw this one in your queue.  You won’t be disappointed.

– As promised by Amazon, I got my copy of Ico/SoTC yesterday and started playing through Ico again.  What stunned me, other than how visually impressive the game is, is how much I remembered of a game that I played only once about 8 years ago.   I couldn’t believe how quickly the game came back to me.  I made it to my first “couch” relatively quickly and saved it so that I can come back to it in a few days.  I don’t want to tear through the game as quickly as possible, I want to enjoy it as much as I can, for as long as I can, before I dive back into Shadow of the Colossus again.

– What can you say about what Prince Fielder did last night for the Brewers?  He almost, by himself, won the game for them with 3 homeruns and driving in 5 runs.  That win allowed this years team to tie the all time franchise record with 95 wins.  John Axford tied for the league lead in saves, Braun is percentage points behind Reyes for the batting title, and Fielder is tied for the home run lead (and is 3 behind for the RBI lead.)  It’s a remarkable year for the Brewers… and I can’t wait to be there for the first home game in the playoffs.

With Arizona’s amazing 6 run bottom of the 10th inning last night, that means that the Brewers have to win to get home field advantage in the first round.  Hopefully Greinke can get it done today and then the team can start to focus on either Arizona or Atlanta coming to town.

– Lastly, I got two trade offers to improve my QB situation.  Now I just have to decide on which one will be best for my team…. Nice to see that kind of action in the fantasy league.  Hope we can keep that up throughout the year.

Does Driver use the Burnout game engine?

Funny that you mention that, as some of the gameplay seems similar to the Burnout style of play, but with actual missions to accomplish in a story.

It’s kind of like burnout except that you can keep jumping from one car to another to allow you to set up more accidents and such.

One example is that you can be in a race with 3 other cars, jump out of your car, hijack a truck that you can use to block the path of the others, then race ahead for a win.

It’s been awesome to play around with so far.

So it’s like a cross between GTA and Burnout, which doesn’t sound too bad to me. If you tell me there’s times where you can get big air, I’m in.

Love how confident you are in the Braves. Can’t blame you though, as the Cardinals getting in would be your worst nightmare come true.

  5. Glen says:

    Not confident. Just hopeful.

Braves have the early lead tonight, so we’ll see how it works out.

  6. CardinalsFan says:

Yea and so do the Cardinals lol
