Friday notes

– Been dealing with a sick kid for the last week.  Starting last Saturday she started complaining of really bad stomach pain, so we had to take her to the ER to see if she might have had an appendix issue.  Blood work turned out normal  so they just moved on to Gastritis.  Since then she has been running a 102-104 fever almost constantly.   Sucks to spend 3 days at home with a sick kid, but there are the nice parts when they just want to sit there and be close to you.

– During some of that time I was able to sit and play some Nintendo Land with her on the WiiU and we both enjoyed that a great deal.  What was most entertaining to me was the fact that she actually beat me on two of the games without any sandbagging from me.  I have to say that it was the first time that she had beaten me at a video game and it was great to see how happy it made her to actually beat her dad at something.

As for the game, we did enjoy quite a few of the mini-games that were in the bundle, but I can see that a few of them will be pretty frustrating for her and her sister until they can put some more time into them.

– Also picked up F-Zero for the Virtual Console yesterday and that is so worth the 30 cents (32 after tax) that it is currently going for on the system.  While it is clear that I am way out of practice on the game, it is still entertaining as hell to play.  Also, the soundtrack for Big Blue has to go down as one of the best in gaming.   I’ll probably pass on Balloon Fight, even for that little money as I can’t ever picture it getting more than a few seconds of play time… and even a quarter is a too much to spend for nostalgia sometimes.

– Finished up the 2nd book of the Dark Tower series this week.  It’s definitely not what I expected from Stephen King, but in all fairness, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was getting into with the series as I was just looking for a decent follow up after the Wheel of Time series.

– Have a good weekend all
