Movie notes

– Last week was a great movie week for yours truly as I was able to see Gravity on the IMAX as well as being able to watch Pacific Rim in 3D at home.

Pacific Rim was one of the most entertaining, guilty pleasure, movies that I’ve seen in many years.  The plot wasn’t anything spectacular but the movie delivered on the promise of giant robots fighting giant monsters.

On Friday night, my wife and I sat down to watch the movie and I enjoyed the film as much the second time as I did when I watched it in the theater earlier this year.  What really made me happy was the fact that my wife seemed to enjoy it just as much as I did.

When I first met her, I would have never believed that this woman would have enjoyed watching an action film like this, but then again… I couldn’t have pictured her laughing out loud while watching Archer as well.  I’ve got myself a great woman there.

Now… onto Gravity.

I don’t want to spoil anything for the film for those of you that haven’t seen it (and so I won’t,) but the film was absolutely amazing.

There were two times, that I can recall, during the 90-minute run time, that I looked down at my hands and saw that they were completely clenched from the amount of tension that I was feeling while watching the movie.

I’m not sure how much longer the film will be continuing to run on the IMAX screen, but I could not recommend a film more highly at this point.   As a person who spent his entire childhood dreaming of wanting to be an astronaut, Gravity gave me the feelings of what it would be like to be there and seeing how terrifying it could be if something went wrong.
