Remember back in the 90s when everyone was using message services like AIM, ICQ, and even MSN Messenger?
Just for kicks I fired up the old ICQ. I have a very low number back when it was popular and even remembered my now 16 year old password.
I logged in and despite having over 300+ contacts from my videogame heyday, there was only 1 of those contacts online.
What first struck me was how many people on my contact list were deceased, like Billy Wilson at Voodoo Extreme. Yikes. It’s funny seeing someone who was the head of EA PR still frozen in time, even though these days she is doing PR at Apple (Hi Trudy)…now instead of asking for Madden early, I’m trying to see if I can get Air Pods (fat chance).
In other news, earlier in the year I did something I never thought I would do – I stopped doing social media. I figured hey I don’t want to be marketing data…it’s all gone – Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn….and I haven’t really missed it. They were great tools for finding people….but other than that it’s a massive time drain.
